Health Effects of an Old/Bad Mattress

1.17.22

We spend a lot of time on our mattresses.

Whether it be for nighttime sleeping, napping, comfort, watching TV. There are many times we use our mattresses throughout our life and it’s important to everyone’s comfort and general wellbeing.

We get it, your mattress has been with you for years, and has been reliable and still feels the same as when you bought it. Why spend money on another when that one is keeping up with the punches? This kind of thinking can pertain to many objects in life, but your mattress is the one thing you should not take lightly.

A right mattress makes the difference between a sleepless night, and a night full of tossing and turning and punches from your partner. A study done by the National Sleep Foundation cited that people using older beds rather than people who had just purchased a new bed were shown to have more stress-related symptoms and poorer sleep quality than the latter.

As well, it was found that older mattresses, no matter how much they are cleaned, become breeding grounds for mites, bed bugs, and many types of allergens as they soak up precipitation. This can degrade the quality of the mattress, which already loses its foundation the more someone sleeps on it. This can lead to chronic back and neck pain which just makes things worse for the future.

We recommend following the 8 year period of replacing a mattress, unless you purchase a mattress guaranteed for a specific time, in order to fight these effects and leave yourself feeling right and ready for the day.
