How to Care for Your Smooth Top Range

So cleaning your smooth top range is a lot more challenging than expected. It’s really because of the delicate nature that the glass is made of. You really don’t want to scratch it up or go about cleaning it the wrong way; doing things wrong can and will damage it and reduce its life expectancy. So here’s 4 tips from Happys Appliances Outlet on cleaning and caring for your smooth top stove.

Tip #1 – Prep your stove top for cleaning

After dinner–any meal really–is the best time to start prepping your stove top for its clean. Now, I know it can be hard to motivate yourself after a good meal and long day at work, but it will make your life so much easier to get into the habit of cleaning it every time. Make sure your burners are off and that the glass has cooled completely–no need for burns or burning the cleaning solutions into the glass. If you’re stove is already pretty clean then all you need to really do is spray it down with a small bit or distilled white vinegar or water. If it isn’t…well follow the above and move to the next step!

Tip #2 – Choose your cleaner

Choosing the best cleaner is super important. You don’t have to use something super expensive, but you do need to use something that’s appropriate and won’t damage the delicate glass. That means no using a scrub brush or brillo pad or copper pad. If you really have some stuck/burnt on gunk then either use a razor blade to scrape it off gently or use a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda. Afterwards simply wipe the top off with a damp microfiber cloth and buff it dry. Don’t have lemon juice or baking soda on hand? Well, dishsoap is a perfect alternative. Just mix a little dishwashing liquid with some warm/hot water and wipe down the glass.

Tip #3 – Clean up spills ASAP

I cannot stress just how important it is to wipe up spills as soon as you can. Doing so can spare you from having burnt on food or liquid, or dried, hardened food. Just use that microfiber rag and wipe away the spill as best you can. If the top is still hot, don’t risk it or if you’re very adamant about wiping it, use a damp dish clothe and make sure to keep your hand away from the burner.

Tip #4 – Polish Regularly

If you want your cooktop to look its best, you really have to invest in a polishing formula. Brands like Weiman carry great kits for the uninitiated and are quite handy! Having a nicely polished stove can give you a real sense of accomplishment, and take some stress off your shoulders too! Even better, a lot of these polishes double as cleaners too!

Conclusion

Taking care of a glass or ceramic top range doesn’t have to be hard or time consuming. All you need to do is invest a little time in preventing stuck on gunk and your life will be so much easier! And for the times you do have some burnt on stuff, just follow the tips above and your range will shine as good as brand new!
