What Does an Energy Star Certification Mean?

With extreme weather conditions currently raging all across the country, many people are being reminded of the negative environmental effects that come as a result of climate change. This has led a good deal of consumers to consider what small actions they can take in their everyday lives to combat these effects on our planet. We’ve been thinking about it too over here at Happys Appliances Outlet, which is why we’ve decided to share some information about Energy Star’s product label. Buying appliances that are Energy Star certified is a great way to effortlessly reduce your carbon footprint and save some money on your energy bill.

What is Energy Star?

Energy Star is a government-backed symbol that represents energy efficiency. Its goal is to to help the public save money and protect the environment. More specifically, they have set out to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by inefficient energy use, and to make it easier for customers to identify energy-efficient products that don’t compromise on performance or features.

How Do Products Earn The Label?

Appliances earn the Energy Star certification by meeting the energy efficiency requirements that are set by the EPA. These specifications are as follows:

  • Product types must contribute to significant energy savings nationwide.
  • Products must deliver on the features and dependability expected from consumers, while simultaneously reducing energy use.
  • Products that cost more than less energy-efficient alternatives must save consumers the extra money they invested through utility bill savings.
  • The efficiency can be achieved through widely available technology and techniques that do not give a single manufacturer a significant advantage over competitors.
  • Measurable energy conservation through testing
  • Clear and visible labeling
