It’s Time To Upgrade Your Appliances

Not sure if it’s time to upgrade your appliances? Here are some unmistakable signs that you need to stop settling for “good enough.” So make a list, check off each of these signs, and show your spouse or your bank account that it’s time to trash those dingy appliances to make room for a beautiful new kitchen suite.

Mismatched Appliances

When you put-off updating your appliances, you risk mismatched appliances. If your fridge gets fried, you’ll need to replace it immediately to avoid food spoilage. Without the sufficient funds or time, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to get the fridge you actually hoped for. Before you know it, you’ll have a kitchen full of cluttered appliances that only “work for now” instead of the streamlined look of the matching kitchen suite you dream of.

It’s Not Doing Its Job

Obviously, a busted appliance needs to be replaced, but what if your appliance still gets you by. If you’ve had to “learn” your old appliance (only the far left burner on your cooktop works, the fridge temp has to stay on the lowest setting or everything melts, and don’t ever, ever put the microwave on the potato setting unless you want to burn the whole place down) it’s time to stop settling and instead upgrade to functioning appliances.

People Can Guess Its Age

Appliances become dated when people can guess their age or the era. “My grandpa had the same cooktop in the 70s” is not a compliment. If people can guess the age of your appliances based on the avocado green of your wall oven or the wood grain of your microwave, it’s time to update your appliances.

Too Much Noise

From a rattling vent hood and noisy refrigerator compressor to the sound of a freight train from your washer’s spin cycle, outdated appliances tend to be way louder than new appliances. Modern appliances combine smoother moving parts with layers of insulation to keep noise to a minimal.

High Power Bill

Without today’s advanced technology, old appliances tend to be power hogs that cost you a pretty penny each month in energy bills. Old refrigerators and freezers are the worst offenders, using up to 3 times more than new appliances. If you like to save money and reduce your carbon footprint, select new appliances that are EnergyStar® certified. Once you use EnergyStar®’s energy savings calculator to discover how much you’ll save each year, that new refrigerator will suddenly seem a lot more affordable.
