Best Detergents For Your Washer

We all have that favorite brand of detergent that we use. For me, it’s the Eco-friendly Gain; their Lavender Vanilla scent is to die for. But the question we all really need to start asking is: “Which ones are the best for prolonging the life of our washers?”

It’s really important to know this kind of stuff, you don’t want to buy a washer every two or so years, ideally. You want something to last you, especially if you get it for a great deal at a place like Happys Appliances Outlet. So without further ado, here are some tips so that detergents won’t screw up your washer!

Avoid Fabric Softeners

Fabric softeners have been promoted for years to be something that will make your clothes feel ultra fluffy and soft. It’s all a big scam. What fabric softeners really do is break down the actual fibers that your clothes are made of, making them wear and tear faster. Even worse, all that residue that fabric softener leaves on clothes, it all leaves on the moving parts of your washer, clogging it up and causing them to break. So…definitely avoid the fabric softeners from now on.

The Less Suds, the Better

Now, I know what you’re all thinking, “But…suds mean that your clothes are being cleaned ultra, super well!” Well guys, I’m sorry to say it, but more suds don’t mean extra clean. You’re actually really overworking your washer and causing more residue to build up. Sometimes the suds prolong the rinse cycle causing your water bill to go up as well. So please remember guys, use less detergent, you don’t need a huge glob of detergent to wash those clothes.

Be Careful With “Natural” Detergents

If you’re like me, you really care about making your carbon footprint as small as possible. And that includes using more natural, Earth friendly alternatives. Well…sometimes the natural options can be just as bad or worse than the non-natural ones. For instance, “natural” detergent can be worse than synthetic. A lot of natural detergents rely of alkaline ingredients–like lye–to corrode clothes clean. Doesn’t sound too appealing, yeah? Because of those corrosive ingredients, they get caught up in your washer and cause corrosion to the parts. Your washer can start underperforming and not get your clothes clean to your satisfaction, or break entirely!

Conclusion

So, please guys take this stuff to heart. It’s all backed up with science and experiment results. I can promise that if you eliminate this stuff from your wash routine you’ll find yourself with longer last clothes and a longer lasting washing machine. And the more we can save money, the happier we can be!
