All About Agitators

When you come to Happys looking for a new top-load washer, you may notice a key difference between our selections when inspecting the insides of them. Many of them contain a cylindrical post in the center called an Agitator and depending on your clothes washing preference, they may or may not be for you. In this blog, we’ll take a look at the functions of an agitator, and help you make a determination of whether or not you want one in your washer!

What Agitators Do

Washing machine agitators twist back and forth and rub against your clothes, in an effort to break up tough stains. Despite what conclusions you might draw from the name “agitator”, advances in their technology now ensure that they’re gentle on clothes. Outside of that, these washers still utilize spraying action and wash basket action just like impeller (non-agitator) washing machines.

Is An Agitator Right For You?

Depending on your lifestyle/living situation, you may or may not want a washing machine with an agitator. Washers that possess agitators have shorter wash times, which make them a good option for busy people who are always on the move. However, non-agitator washers have more space in their wash basket, which allows you to wash larger loads of laundry. So if you have a large family with children you might not want an agitator, but keep in mind that children are messy and you may want that extra stain-fighting friction that agitators offer. Given that there is no discernible difference in cleaning performance and energy efficiency, it really just comes down to which style you’re most comfortable with!
